Mar 1, 2023

Kate Walsh is stepping down as President and CEO of Boston Medical Center (BMC), an H2HC Advisory Council member, as she joins Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey’s Administration as Secretary of Health and Human Services. In this new role, Walsh will lead the state’s largest department, which oversees 12 state agencies and provides treatment to one in three Massachusetts residents.

As Healey said in a statement to the Boston Globe, “Kate Walsh is exactly the leader Massachusetts needs for this moment in health care. She has a proven track record of delivering results on health equity, affordability, and behavioral health, while also addressing social determinants of health like food and housing insecurity. She will bring an innovative and compassionate approach to the office that centers the needs of patients and providers.”

Under Walsh’s leadership for the past 13 years, BMC has furthered their mission to improve the lives of those in the Boston community through innovation, health equity, and compassion.  From system-wide initiatives to improve equitable care, to building a more sustainable hospital campus, BMC has achieved a great deal with Walsh’s expert guidance.
