The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2025
An estimated 8.2 percent of the global population, or about 673 million people, experienced hunger in 2024, down from 8.5 percent in 2023 and 8.7 percent in 2022, announced in The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI 2025) report published by five specialized agencies of the United Nations.
Projections warn that by 2030, nearly 60 % of the 512 million people expected to be chronically undernourished will live in Africa. Persistent drivers such as conflict, economic instability, climate shocks, and high food inflation (especially in low-income countries) are undermining progress. While South America and Southern Asia show tangible improvement through stronger social programs and agricultural investment, the world remains off track to achieve SDG 2: Zero Hunger by 2030.
