Feeding America and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics have released the first national Medically Tailored Grocery (MTG) Standards for community-based organizations, providing an evidence-based framework for organizations to design food packages that support specific health conditions. The standards were developed by Feeding America’s registered dietitian nutritionists and reviewed by the Academy.
The new standards aim to bring greater consistency, clinical rigor and scalability to community-based Food is Medicine programs. Feeding America and the Academy plan to build on the standards with additional patient-care guidance, implementation practices and training resources to help organizations put them into practice.
